Established in 1922, the Egyptian Theatre is the first major movie theatre in Hollywood. It was architectured by Sid Grauman, and was later renovated in the late 50's. This most historic entertainment venue became the first public exhibition center in Hollywood.

This renowned national landmark with a café, bookstore and patio welcomes its visitors in the entrance courtyard.

The 650- seats theatre has retractable acoustic panels. The first film shown was “Robin Hood”, starring Douglas Fairbanks. The Ten Commandments also had its premiere there. The theatre screens varied classical, independent films, documentaries and even conversation with film makers and actors.

In 1960's , The Egyptian Theatre met a downfall, but in 1998, a huge amount of million were used to restore the theatre to its former glory.

The sunburst ceiling is a true sign of aristrocracy. Visitors to The Egyptian may gaze with amazement. This is the 4th most adventurous revival house.

Hours : Box office only open during Cinematheque shows; usually Wed- Sun 6pm- 10pm
